WOW! NewsTalk Radio has something to chew on these days... the Limbaugh/White House debate is making headlines and not for all the right reasons. But Limbaugh learned how to do all this a long time ago and as we said a week or so ago, he’s going to wring this out day-by-day until there is not a drop left.
One more time - Limbaugh exists and is being paid his un-Godly salary for only one reason... to deliver an audience. That’s it, pure and simple... it’s all about ratings and advertising and, yes, entertaining... or, did we lose track of what’s really going on here?
When Rush was at KFBK he was an enertainer... not, at first mind you but Bruce and Paul nudged him along the pathway. And, because he was a good entertainer capable of building and maintaining audience, he got the BIG NYC job. And, the rest is history... except, of course, now it’s all bcoming a bit fuzzy as Rush dips his BIG toe into the political waters to test the temperature.
Rush the Enertainer does have a very large megaphone and his voice is heard across the country. And, until Republicans determine for themselves just who it is that, these days, speaks for the party (probably a more moderate voice) then Rush will continue to badger anyone he wishes in order to build ratings.
Now... let’s continue....
First, as FOX News reports, this particular web-site is just the latest to appear based on the feud...

Without question there is plenty of behind the scenes maneuvering going on at the White House and around Republican circles concerning "Entertainer Rush". It’s simply one of those moments in time that you’ll remember for a long, long time in our business.
And, don’t think for a moment that this is something that has just recently happened. This has been "in works" for some time. After all, it was Democratic polling last Fall (which we chatted about at the time) that showed some very low numbers for Limbaugh.
Keep up with the story because it changes daily...

And, since he knows it’ll never happen... "The Entertainer" is challenging the President to a debate. Why? He knows the W.H. is chuckling all over this mess so why not try to re-position and perhaps re-gain a small foothold?

Chicago continues to mourn the loss of Paul Harvey. The city was home to Paul and "Angel". (If you remember The Breakfast Club with Don McNeil and The Prarie Farmer Station (that would be WLS - Channel 89 - before it became the BEST Top 40 station in the country) then you probably remember Paul Harvey on air at that time.
But, now a means of remembering and honoring the long time broadcaster is beng talked about by Bruce DuMont for his TV & Radio Museum.

Sad to note that one of our High School classmates from Chicago’s Hirsch high has passed away.
Richard Pegue was a Chicago area D.J. for years and had personality plus.
He had formed a Doo Wop group waaaay back then, wrote commercials and POP music.
Heart failure Tuesday morning.
Any time Russians forcast the demise of the USA, we sit up and take note. It’s happened again with a prediction that the U.S. will split apart by 2011.
The dean at Russia’s Foreign Ministry school in Moscow says President Barack Obama will order martial law this year, the U.S. will split into six states before 2011, and Russia and China will become the backbones of a new world order, the Associated Press reports.
"There is a high probability that the collapse of the United States will occur by 2010," Igor Panarin told dozens of students, professors and diplomats Tuesday at the Diplomatic Academy.
Panarin said the recent economic turmoil in the U.S. and other "social and cultural phenomena" led him to move up his timetable for "The End" - when the United States will break up and Alaska will revert to Russian control. He linked America’s social and cultural issues to the large prison populations and large numbers of gay men.
Alexei Malashenko, a scholar-in-residence at the Carnegie Moscow Center who did not attend the lecture, told the AP that Russia is the country on the verge of disintegration.
"I can’t imagine at all how the United States could ever fall apart," Malashenko said
AS you may know by now, The Daily Beast is keeping up with the daily flow of information these days just about as well as any other source we watch.
Matter of fact, we’re seeing the Limbaugh story, poliics and all the other items we’re talking about on radio these days right there -- updated, front and center.

Tuesday, we called the "Entertainer Rush" situation a combination of poor reality programming and a really bad sitcom. Admittedly, that’s not a very pleasant description, but, we’ve heard much more critical analysis of the name calling and back-biting going on.
Tom Taylor, this morning, says the situation is becoming a concern for station chiefs and programmers who wonder how it will ultimately shake out and whether this on-going side-show will have lasting negative effect on the Limbaugh franchise...
"Where is Rush Limbaugh going with his new-found political notoriety? President Obama and his administration seem to have intentionally picked this fight, by painting unelected talkhost Limbaugh (“I hope Obama fails”) as the most visible spokesman for the Republican Party. That has the effect of diminishing the public profile of the people who actually were elected to various positions.
(RNC Chairman Michael Steele managed to diminish his own stature by first putting Rush in his place as "an entertainer" who can be “incendiary” - and then recanting a day later.)
For radio, the question is - what does this do to Rush as a talk radio personality?
Limbaugh glories in all the attention he’s getting from events like last weekend’s televised one-hour speech at CPAC. He sees this as a wonderful opening.
But the Obama folks are positioning him as a symbol of what they think most Americans don’t want - obstructionism and stubborn partisanship.
So it’s a carnival ride for Rush and his fan base is no doubt thrilled to watch him. But some station managers and programmers are viewing this from the sidelines - a little concerned about their star player and how he’s going to look when it’s all over."

What a truly unfortunate situation involving the lost NFL players and their friends that played out in the Gulf of Mexico over the past weekend.
Having traveled acros the gulf many times in a variety of boats and situations we appreciate what has occured but certainly wonder how and why those four guys made the decision to go out as far as they did and not turn back as other boaters did when winds increased and seas roughened.

Bernanke was quoted as saying the giant insurance company exploited a near complete lack of oversight.
